When visiting Galveston Island, make a point to stop by La King’s Confectionery. The legacy of this soda shoppe and candy store on the Strand began in the 1920s, when a member of the King family learned candy making. It wasn’t until the 1970s that the confectionery as it is known today began. Since its opening, La King’s Confectionary has sold all types of candies, handmade chocolates and real fountain drinks that you would have enjoyed from drugstores in the 1920s. La King’s is also the only place where you can find Galveston’s original ice cream brand, Purity, because this brand is manufactured in the same building on the Strand.
